Portishead VS Radiohead

Portishead-"The Rip"

This tune is taken out of Portishead's third album, which is also the most beautiful song on the record. This live version is a little different than the album version, in particular, the bass is replaced with an annoying triggered sound, which leads to the point I'm trying to make. But you'll have to listen to the version below first.

Radiohead covers "The Rip"

Now Radiohead had said in several interviews that they really loved Portishead's new album, which is probably their favourite. So it's only natural that they'd cover this song sooner rather than later. The point I'm trying to make is that this is such a beautiful song with mesmerizing melody and chord changes, it really needn't to be arranged in a weird, or "alternative" way, for the song to stand out. Sometimes the simplest way is usually the smartest.

But, hey, they're the Portishead, the band who literally created and solidified trip-hop. So I ain't gonna question their methods. I'm just saying.
